Modernizing Housing Operations Through Technology & UI/UX Design

Modernizing residential life requires more than implementing new technology; it requires understanding exactly what students and staff need from the systems they use every day. Through the development and customization of StarRez and StarCare, we focused on creating a more intuitive user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) that reflected the practical needs of both audiences.

This involved redesigning portal navigation, improving housing applications, streamlining guest registration and approval workflows, and making important information easier to find and understand. By examining how students and staff interacted with the systems, we could identify unnecessary steps, improve accessibility, strengthen information management, and create more secure and efficient processes.

The project required significant financial investment, time, training, and continuous refinement. However, its greatest value came from designing technology around the people using it rather than expecting people to adapt to complicated systems.
