Dorm34: Growing A Residential Community from 12 to 100 Residents
From a pandemic-era opening to a thriving residential community, Dorm34 demonstrates the power of intentional community building, student engagement, and residential leadership.
When Dorm34 opened in August 2020, it welcomed just 16 students during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through continued growth, strategic engagement, and a commitment to creating a welcoming environment, the residence expanded to 35 students the following year and approximately 75 students by Fall 2022, eventually reaching a peak of 100 residents.
The focus extended beyond occupancy. Establishing traditions, creating opportunities for students to connect, and helping residents feel that they belonged became central to the community's development. From ice cream socials and welcome teas to library visits, informal gaming, and community gatherings, these initiatives helped transform a residence into a place students could call home.

The Campus Nest Approach
Dorm34 illustrates how residential success involves more than filling beds. It requires intentional programming, consistent relationship-building, meaningful traditions, and an environment where students feel welcomed and connected. By combining operational awareness with people-centered leadership, this experience demonstrates how a smaller residence can develop its identity, strengthen its community, and grow into a vibrant residential destination.
The outcome: A growing residential population supported by a stronger sense of community, established traditions, and a welcoming student experience.
